2012 Reading list

Aside from the monthly books chosen via polls, I have a list of books that I'd like to read in 2012.  I saw this idea somewhere last year so I wrote down the books I really wanted to tackle.  I discovered last month that I'm not the only person who does this.  Mike's cousin Stacey posted her list last month, and she linked to Life As a Mom's book list.  So, it seems that I'm not original; I'm just behind.

I usually try to keep my reading very open.  Our library gets in dozens of new nonfiction books every month and many of them interest me.  I never can predict which one will grab me at any particular time.  Such being the case, I selected mostly fiction for my want-to-read list for 2012.

  1. Harry Potter (the entire series) by J.K. Rowling
  2. His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman
  3. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
  4. Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
  5. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
  6. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
  7. Watership Down by Richard Adams
  8. My Antonia by Willa Cather
  9. Buccaneers by Edith Wharton
  10. In Country by Bobbie Ann Mason
  11. Wicked River:  When the Mississippi Last Ran Wild by Lee Sandlin
  12. Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt
I am only listing twelve for now.  Actually counting all the series books as individuals, that's eighteen books, I believe.  I really hope to do better with my reading this year.  I read a lot last year, but I deviated from my list.  Of 33 books, I only read 12.  That's 36%.  Bad.  I'm shooting for 100% this year!

Anyone else out there have a reading list for 2012?

I love to make a 'wish list' of books to read. Seems like when I set a goal of how many, then it sucks a bit of the joy out of the whole process for me. I feel like I have this huge 'goal' hanging over my head and it feels like a forced activity rather than simply reading because I want to read.

But...then the 'listmaker' in me really loves the process of making the list and crossing things off the list. Nerdy list love!
